Summer at the Good Cheese Company
It seems that warmer days are maybe approaching and we can put to bed our fleeces and coats finally!!
POP UP SHOP - We call it 'pop up' however, we are here most days and of course if someone comes along to buy some cheese we are happy to sell it! The idea is to venture into our very large walk in fridge which, in the height of summer is a great way to cool down! from here you can select the cheese of your choice. The cheese we cut into what we call pre-packs are all priced ready for our customers customers.. in other words we have already marked up the cheese for our customers, all they have to do is to load up their fridge cabinets, there is also a bar code on our labels. Our pop up shop customers of course, will have a deduction on the cheese they buy as they are buying the cheese wholesale. Generally speaking, we would prefer the general public not to come to buy on Monday and Tuesday's as the fridge floor is full of boxed orders ready for us to deliver on a Wednesday and Thursday. By Friday, things here have calmed down and the fridge is all yours! there is a short shopping window on a Thursday and Friday though as sometimes we are not here, I may be off, or I may be out decorating a cheese tower.. we apologise if you turn up to find this is the case, we do try and make sure that the times we advertise are the times we are here. 12pm until 3pm is the best time to shop! We take card payment or cash and we sometimes have cheese to give away if it is coming up to its use by, so don't be surprised if we give you a freebie too! We actually have very little waste so unfortunately the freebies are not often.
TOO GOOD TO GO - We are advocates of reducing food waste, we advertise our goodie bags on the 'too good to go' app when we have a selection big enough, you will find that most of the time the cheese is within its use by by a few days or it may be that the use by is on the day you collect. We are unable to sell cheese which has gone past the use by due to Environmental Health restrictions. We know that a hard cheese is more than ok way after the use by date however, we cannot be seen to be selling cheese of this nature after the date. The goodie bags are priced at £4.00 and in the bag you will find 3-4 cheese which have a market value of £12.00. The only cheese which we don't tend to include in this are the soft cheeses, they are a little more risky. Keep a look out for these on the App because they are rare but worth it if you manage to get one.
CHEESE OF THE MONTH - Every month we have a cheese of the month, it may be a cheese which is seasonal such as goats cheese or sheep milk cheese in the spring or a nice melting cheese for summer BBQ's, we try and change it up as much as we can. We also support local cheese makers and promote their cheese too. CHEESE TASTINGS - Cheese tastings held here at The Good Cheese Company headquarters have become hugely popular; Cheese tastings regularly take place and are a complimentary service to Bride and groom with a view to them selecting their wedding cheese for either a tower or a cheese platter. The tasting lasts around 1.5 hours during which time, they get to try various cheeses and together we build a cheese tower so that they have an idea about how their cheese tower will look on the day. We also offer a glass of complimentary fizz during the session.
Around a year after moving to Rose Farm we decided to offer a different cheese tasting experience, we call this one, the guided cheese tasting. Guided because for each cheese, of which there are 6, a brief history of the cheese is given, together with information about the cheese maker and how the cheese is made. Each cheese is carefully paired with an alcoholic drink which is fairly generous therefore, please be aware of this if you are driving! the session lasts around 2 hours and this tasting costs £60.00 for 2 people, the tasting room seats four people comfortably so is a lovely event with friends. The tasting can be an alcoholic free one, I have recently carried out a soft drink pairing which was a huge success. Vouchers can also be purchased from the 'cheese shop' on line and each voucher is for two people. The voucher can be delivered locally which is free or shipped anywhere within England and Wales.
CELEBRATION CHEESE TOWERS - Cheese tastings often follow with a booking for a decorated cheese tower at your special event. Next year I will be employing someone on a casual basis to help me with the weekend cheese tower decorating however, I am currently supported by the very creative Meg at https://revagreen.co.uk/ so, when I am already booked out or I am away, Meg is usually on hand to fill in; all of our flowers for celebration cheese towers are also supplied by Reva Green. I also call upon our Lovely Jo who supports me with social media and marketing, also very creative, I have two very innovative assistants at my door step. We do have some availability for tower decoration in August, September and October and I am now taking bookings for 2025 tastings.
