I love a wedding and in particular I have such a creative interest in them; the styling, the theme, the chosen colours, the list goes on.
Cheese towers have become so popular, they seem to have taken precedency over a traditional wedding cake (it is good to see that many couples choose to have both though!)
An occasion to meet the Bride and Groom and in many cases the parents and/or bridesmaids too, has given me the opportunity to learn something about the couple, to discuss their favourite cheese and to be part of their big day even if, just a very small part.
I dance internally if a couple book me to decorate their cheese tower, the merriment of being creative and producing a centrepiece is delightful for me; this is the cherry on top, completing the guest experience, from firstly booking a tasting to attending the tasting, to seeing their cheese tower dressed in all its glory!
We discuss their requirements and preferences, is it just fruit? Is it a mix of fruit and flowers? Maybe herbs? Closer to the wedding day, I source their chosen décor, the day before the wedding I practice the ‘dressing’ of the cheese tower, I do this in the tasting room, taking step by step photographs, preparing the flowers by cutting them to the required length, deciding on the placement of the fruit; subsequently on the day, I decorate the tower, take some final photographs and then I am gone!!
FINAL CHEESE TOWER AT VENUE
For me, it is not just about supplying cheese for a cheese tower it is about being part of that special day even in a very small way, having an understanding of the style or theme of their wedding, and creating for the couple a beautiful tower which stands out becoming a wonderful centre piece.
I have recently decorated a very bespoke cheese tower for a couple who got married at Rowton Hall in Cheshire. Louisa and Rob had specific requirements; they asked me to source cheese made or from Counties across the UK which had some significance in their lives.
Rob came from Derbyshire, Louisa had some Scottish heritage, they met in Yorkshire….
And, here is a photograph of the finished Cheese Tower, Louisa and Rob were thrilled.
Belton farm Sage Derby, Belton Farm white Cheshire, Montgomery Cheddar, Dovedale Blue, Katy’s Lavender cheese, Snowdonia Green Thunder, Godminster heart and Brie from Cumbria taking the top tier.
And here are a couple more of my special creations…
