To celebrate this very special event we have carefully selected a fabulous ‘Best of British’ medley of cheese available to buy in either a gift box or presented on a cheese slate.
As many people will be celebrating with friends and family our hand selected cheese will be easy to transport in our gift boxes. Each box containing enough cheese for 6-8 guests. (Smaller pieces are available for a smaller quantity of guests)
Coronation cheese
The true home of cheddar cheese is made in Cheddar Gorge by the Cheddar Gorge cheese company, ‘the only cheddar made in Cheddar.’ While cheddar is produced throughout the world, it is unmistakeably a true English cheese. https://www.cheddargorgecheese.com/
We have chosen the Cave matured cheddar which has been matured in cheddar Gorge’s natural caves a smooth and well-rounded cheese. Aged for 12 months.
‘Good cheddar is always crumbly if it is being aged properly. Joseph Harding, called the “the father of cheddar cheese” and described the ideal cheddar to be close and firm in texture, mellow in character with a tendency to melt in the mouth and a maturation of 12-24 months’ https://britishheritage.com/
Stilton cheese has been called the ‘king of cheeses’ for generations
Stilton is the only English cheese which is EU-protected, it can only be produced in three counties which are Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. So, if you fancy making stilton in the village of Stilton, you can’t!!
The stilton we have selected is made in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, by Long Clawson dairy; one of our best sellers, with its characteristic bold blue veins, a distinctive mouth-watering tangy flavour, and matured for around 8 weeks, this cheese is perfect for your coronation feast! https://www.clawson.co.uk/
Each one of the stilton is individually graded and hand selected to ensure the highest quality.
Cheshire cheese
Produced in Cheshire and neighbouring Welsh and English counties; it may be the oldest cheese in Britain. It is said to be mentioned in the 11th century Domesday!
Young Cheshire cheese tends to be firm but crumbly and mild when it is young, as it matures it develops its flavour significantly and becomes a little harder.
Appleby Cheshire is a firm favourite, made at Hawkstone Abbey farm in Shropshire, their cheese made from the milk of their own herd of cows, represents so well, their ethos and sustainable way that they farm. Appleby Cheshire cheese has a very unique citrussy flavour and crumbly texture. https://www.applebysdairy.com/
Finally, we have chosen a Welsh brie, Perl Wen… one of Wales’s best loved cheeses and made at Caws Cenarth Cheese.https://www.cawscenarth.co.uk/ It is a cross between Caerffili and Brie. The recipe starts with a farmhouse Caerffili recipe which gives the cheese the citrussy flavour with a hint of sea salt; as the cheese matures the cheese beneath the beautiful white rind becomes creamy and buttery in texture.
Try it baked in a panini with pancetta!
